An evening of rhythm, flavor and timeless charm awaits at the Washington Duke Inn &amp; Golf Club’s recently reimagined Fairview Dining Room, where guests can soak in the groovy, soulful sounds of 1960s Motown at this AAA Four Diamond destination nestled on Duke University’s scenic campus. “Sweet Soul Revival: 60s Motown” invites guests into an evening of vibrant energy and feel-good rhythm, featuring the legendary hits of Aretha Franklin, Marvin Gaye, The Supremes, Stevie Wonder and James Brown that defined a generation. 
Hosted in the Inn’s award-winning Fairview Dining Room from 5-8 p.m., a live DJ from Hunky Dory Durham will spin vinyl throughout the night, while a dedicated listening station lets guests experience the era’s iconic grooves up close. Alongside the music, guests will savor a thoughtfully curated menu and a themed cocktail inspired by the era, with limited edition, vintage-inspired pricing — offered exclusively for the evening in celebration of the event and as a nod to the Motown era — featuring a specialty entrée and dessert for $25 and a $10 cocktail. We're sad to say goodbye to our friends at Funguys Brewing with a tribute tap takeover. This beloved mom-and-pop craft brewery may have closed its taproom doors but we're still pouring the fun, flavor forward ales and lagers they're known for.
Carly and Nick Brango opened the taproom and brewery in midtown Raleigh in April of 2018. In 2022, readers of The News &amp; Observer voted Funguys Brewing as their favorite brewery and they've been churning out great brews since. With all beer brewed under the strict supervision of their sweet, sassy, belly rub loving dog, Daisy, they've been a local favorite for years.

About Tyler Starr
<a href="https://www.tylerstarr.com/" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener">Tyler Starr</a> integrates research, direct observation, and poetic association into mixed media works that visualize contemporary social and political conundrums. He earned his Doctor of Fine Arts from Tokyo University of the Arts as a recipient of the Japanese Ministry of Education Scholarship. He is the recipient of a Fulbright Scholarship at the Academy of Fine Arts in Krakow, Poland, as well as residencies and fellowships at Denmark’s Christiania Research Residency, the OMI International Arts Center, and the Kala Art Institute in Berkeley.
Internationally exhibited, Starr’s work has been shown at the Museum of Contemporary Art Tokyo and the Bainbridge Island Museum of Art. His artist’s books are held in numerous permanent collections, including the New York Public Library’s Spencer Collection, the University of Chicago, and the Smithsonian American Art and Portrait Gallery Library. He is currently an Associate Professor of Art at Davidson College.

Each month, Roaming Readers will explore a different genre with suggested selections curated in partnership with Durham County Library and Wake County Public Libraries. This month’s selection is Fantasy. Borrow a book in the month’s suggested audiobook genre from your local library. You can arrive early to apply with for a library card if you do not already have one! This month’s suggested titles include "Between Two Fires" by Christopher Buehlman, "He Who Fights with Monsters" by Shirtaloon or "No Gods, No Monsters by Cadwell Turnbull." Bring your photo ID (if you want to get a library card), phone, headphones and a water bottle and walk the trails while listening at your own pace. <h4>Join us for a screening of the 2023 documentary REFUGE.&nbsp;</h4>
The film follows a former white nationalist leader as he begins to confront his beliefs after connecting with a Muslim refugee doctor and the community in Clarkston, Georgia. Through their experiences, REFUGE looks at the roots of hate and what it can take to move past it.&nbsp; The screening will be followed by a discussion with local and national experts on how people and communities work through division, build trust, and find common ground.
