3. County Board Approves WakeMed, Atrium Health Merger (levinassociates.com) — Wake County commissioners have approved key changes that let Raleigh-based WakeMed move forward with a planned combination with Atrium Health, including a promised $2 billion investment and a big boost in charity care. Wake County will still appoint most of WakeMed's board, while regulators review the deal that could reshape hospital services, technology, and access to care for Raleigh-area patients.
   

4. Raleigh TV meteorologist shares updates on newborn son's NICU journey (newsobserver.com) — A familiar face on Raleigh's CBS17 weather team, Matthew Huddleston, is spending his off-air hours at UNC's neonatal intensive care unit as his premature son, Payson, fights through serious complications. The family is living at the nearby Ronald McDonald House, sharing their journey online to support other NICU parents and highlighting the care they're receiving from UNC's neonatal team.
   

5. I-Team: Water main breaks top 200 across Triangle in 2026 (abc11.com) — Raleigh residents are part of more than 200 water main breaks reported this year in Raleigh and Durham, as growth strains aging pipes across the Triangle. While most Raleigh breaks were small and often contractor‑related, officials say old infrastructure and temperature, not rising demand, are the main culprits, raising questions about future reliability as the customer base keeps growing.
