Deputies stress that legitimate county mail would list Winston-Salem as the return address and not request mailed credit card details. Anyone receiving such a letter is urged to call the Forsyth County Sheriff's Office.
   

2. As Pell grants expand, students see openings to afford short-term job training (sentinelcolorado.com) — Students at Forsyth Technical Community College in Winston-Salem could soon tap new federal Workforce Pell grants to help cover short-term job training like certified nursing assistant programs. The expansion would ease costs for local students juggling work, fees, and supplies, but rollout will be gradual as programs meet strict completion and job-placement requirements. 3. Winston-Salem man sentenced to over 2 decades after kidnapping gas station clerk during robbery (myfox8.com) — A Winston-Salem man has been sentenced to more than 25 years in prison after kidnapping a Speedway gas station clerk at gunpoint from University Parkway and driving her into Tennessee. Winston-Salem police used real-time tracking of the clerk's vehicle to help officers there safely recover her, bound but alive, and seize a loaded handgun. State Board discusses chronic absenteeism, technology, special education, and more (ednc.org) — Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Schools leaders report that last year's major budget shortfall has been closed and district debt eliminated, thanks to more than $11 million in community fundraising plus furloughs and service cuts. At the same State Board of Education meeting, officials reviewed statewide graduation gains, chronic absenteeism strategies, new technology and special education reports, and upcoming grant opportunities that could shape local classrooms.
