Officials stress they never make random residential inspection calls and urge you to hang up, share no personal details, report the scam to law enforcement, and call 740-353-5153 to verify any questionable contact. 
• Portsmouth police union raises nearly $8,000 for Shop With A Cop (sciotovalleyguardian.com) — Portsmouth police officers just raised nearly $8,000 through local Arby's round‑up donations to fund this year's Shop With A Cop for Portsmouth children. Families are referred through local schools, and you can still donate year‑round at WesBanco, the police department, or the lodge to help kids shop for holiday gifts.
• Busted! 09/30/26 New Arrests in Portsmouth, Ohio (sciotocountydailynews.com) — Scioto County Jail, which serves the Portsmouth area, is currently housing 155 inmates, and officials have released a list of recent arrests and charges through the morning of September 30. Everyone named is presumed innocent until proven guilty, and additional arrests after 7 a.m. will appear in a later report, helping residents track local law‑enforcement activity.
