Crews battling large grass fire in southeast OKC (koco.com) — Residents in southeast Oklahoma City are being urged to avoid Hiwassee Road near Southeast 134th Street as crews battle a large grass fire Monday afternoon. With Oklahoma County under a burn ban alongside much of the state, officials warn that violations can bring steep fines and even jail time, urging everyone to follow local restrictions closely.
   

2. Oklahoma City school board moves to start process of renaming elementary school (okcfox.com) — Oklahoma City Public Schools leaders have formally directed the superintendent to begin renaming César Chávez Elementary after survey results showed strong community support for a change. The board says any new name should reflect local culture and values, and is urging families, staff, and nearby residents to stay engaged as the renaming process moves forward.
   

3. 5 Major Oklahoma Business Developments that closed the summer (newson6.com) — Oklahoma City is featured in two major business moves: manufacturer Wall Colmonoy landed a multiyear Air Force contract that brings F‑16 component work back to the city, and construction is underway on the new Choctaw Nation Fieldhouse at Devon Park. Two sentenced in Oklahoma after federal crackdown on alleged PPP and EIDL fraud (okcfox.com) — A 40-year-old Oklahoma City man has been sentenced to 20 months in federal prison and ordered to repay more than half a million dollars for fraudulently obtaining a pandemic PPP loan. His case is one of two Oklahoma prosecutions highlighted in a nationwide federal crackdown on alleged COVID relief fraud, with officials stressing they will continue pursuing older cases tied to these programs.
   

5. Midwest City volunteers build 50 beds for children in need (news9.com) — Midwest City employees and community volunteers recently built 50 beds for children in need through the Sleep in Heavenly Peace nonprofit, which serves the Oklahoma City area. With a $15,000 grant and dozens of volunteers, the group regularly delivers and assembles beds in local homes, and residents can connect with the Oklahoma City chapter online to get involved or request help.
