Veritable Quandry Shuts Its Doors

After 45 years - the Veritable Quandry, the downtown restaurant mainstay is closing its doors - for now anyway. Friday night is its last night.
Owner Dennis King - who opened the place as a fresh graduate from Portland State University in 1971 - sold the building on Southwest First Avenue to Multnomah County, which plans to build a new county courthouse on the location.
The restaurant has become an official clubhouse for many of the city's powerbrokers given its location near the courthouses and city hall.

While King is retiring, people who have grown fond of the menu, have little to fear. The restaurant's general manager and chef are opening Q Restaurant just four blocks away.
