Community Rallies For Late LMHS Principal Sean Hughes's Family

More than 460 of people have donated about $45,000 to a fundraiser for the family of Lower Merion High School Principal Sean Hughes.

LOWER MERION TOWNSHIP, PA — The impact Lower Merion High School Principal Sean Hughes had on the community is being made clade by the number of people who have chipped in to support his family after his untimely death.

Hughes, who served as the school's principal for 14 years, died at age 51 in a Saturday morning crash in New Jersey.

Loving tributes have poured in for Hughes, who was "beloved by thousands of students who passed through the halls of Lower Merion," according to Superintendent Khalid N. Mumin.

And those who shared their appreciation for Hughes's dedication to the school community have put their money where their mouths are.

More than 400 people have contributed to a GoFundMe campaign set up to support the Hughes family in their time of mourning.

"As many of you heard Mr. Hughes suffered a terrible car accident this morning and passed away," campaign organizer Vincent Whitaker wrote. "So me and my friends have started this fundraiser to help the Hughes family out in the state that they are in."

As of 3:30 p.m. Tuesday, 468 people have raised $44,981 through the campaign.

Hughes is survived by his children Nolan, Jack, and Kate, as well as his wife, Kristi.
