PHILADELPHIA — A litany of new charges have been filed against a man who is accused of shooting several Philadelphia Police officers during a roughly seven-hour-long standoff this summer.

District Attorney Larry Krasner announced that 62 new sets of charges, including aggravated assault and attempted murder, have been filed against Maurice Hill for his alleged role in the Aug. 14 standoff in Nicetown-Tioga.

Hill, 36, of Philadelphia, is accused of shooting and hitting six Philadelphia Police officers. Luckily all six officers made full recoveries.

After the standoff, Hill surrendered and was taken to Temple University Hospital for evaluation but later released under police custody.

"Just application of the law requires careful review of all evidence to find facts, even when those facts are complex and require months of analysis. In the case of Maurice Hill, who is already facing serious charges for shooting and wounding six Philadelphia Police officers on August 14th, the District Attorney’s Office is now filing charges for the Attempted Murder of 62 additional Philadelphia Police officers," Krasner said. "Our office does not level these new allegations lightly. Prosecutors reviewed a thorough investigation by the Philadelphia Police Department, which included hundreds of interviews with responding police officers. These 62 officers did not sustain gunshot wounds, but they were all fired upon by Hill."

Krasner said that no lives were lost during the incident is a miracle

"My office will continue to pursue justice in what was one of the worst mass shootings in Philadelphia history," he said. "This Office will continue to work with police and the affected community toward healing and a sense of peace and optimism, particularly for the neighborhood’s young people."
