Arrest Coming In Major Delaware County Fuel Spill Incident

Authorities Tuesday will announce an arrest made in connection with the roughly 4,700 gallon fuel spill in Brookhaven.

BROOKHAVEN, PA — Delaware County authorities are planning to make an arrest in connection with the major fuel spill that occurred in Brookhaven last month.

Delaware County District Attorney Jack Stollsteimer and other local first responders and officials Tuesday will announce an arrest in connection with the spill.

The spill occurred in mid-June at the Gas ‘N’ Go located at the corner of Coebourn Boulevard and Edgmont Avenue in Brookhaven.

An estimated 4,700 gallons of gas spilled June 11 and forced Coebourn Elementary School in Brookhaven to close for its last week of school.

The spill killed many fish, turtles and frogs after gas got into Sheppards Run tributary and Chester Creek.

County officials said the soil contamination was extensive due to the spill being unreported Friday into Saturday.

The spill was the result of a tanker overfilling at the station.

In addition to local responders, The Delaware County Daily Times reports the EPA, the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection, the Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission, and the Delaware County Hazardous Materials Team and Emergency Services responded to the scene.
