Father Of 4 Shot, Killed In Delco While Sitting In Car: Cops

A suspect is now in custody after the local father of four was shot and killed, police said.

UPPER DARBY, PA — A Delaware County man and father of four was shot and killed while sitting in traffic, authorities and media sources said. The suspect is now in custody.

The incident occurred just before 8 a.m. on Friday in Upper Darby, on Lansdowne Avenue near Winding Way, in the area of Upper Darby High School.

Police initially said there was "some sort of traffic incident" involving the victim, 54-year-old Jim Hunt of Havertown, and the suspect, 28-year-old Lloyd Amarsingh of Darby.

Initial media reports cited the incident as a road rage shooting, but Amarsingh said that it was an accident, and that his gun misfired twice while he was sitting in his car and reloading it, authorities said.

One of the bullets struck Hunt in the side of the head. He was found dead in his vehicle. 6ABC reports that he was a father of four.

Amarsingh turned himself in to authorities. He has been charged with third degree murder, implying a lack of pre-meditation.

A preliminary hearing is set for April 6.
