2 New Montco Coronavirus Cases, Including Lower Providence Cop

A resident of another state and a local police officer are the latest two individuals with coronavirus in Montgomery County.

MONTGOMERY COUNTY, PA — Two more individuals have tested presumptive positive for coronavirus in Montgomery County, including a Lower Providence Township police officer, officials said Wednesday.

The officer, a 35-year-old man and a resident of Perkiomen Township, had direct contact with an infected person who was a previously announced case in the county. His symptoms do not require hospitalization and he is in self-quarantine at home.

The second victim is a 61-year-old man from another state who is now hospitalized in Montgomery County. Officials did not say what state he was from.

Authorities did not provide a timeline for how long these infected individuals were interacting with the public. Montgomery County Commissioner Val Arkoosh said that the county would not provide the total number of individuals that were in self-quarantine.

Health officials are tracing the recent activities of both individuals to see who they may have come into contact with, and that includes other Lower Providence Township staff and as well as members of the public.

Although the second victim is being treated in Montgomery County, he is not part of the county's official count because he does not live here. That leaves the total number of infected residents in Montgomery County at nine.

In addition, the individual in Philadelphia who tested positive on Wednesday works in the eastern part of Montgomery County, officials said. That victim's recent movements in the county are also being traced.

The news comes as schools, businesses, and community centers continued to close around the state. Penn State announced Wednesday that they would suspend all on-campus courses for two weeks.
