Heavy Rains Prompt Flood Warning Across Philly Region

The heavy rain and thunderstorms are causing trouble on the roads, and have prompted nearly 4,200 power PECO outages.

Heavy rains are moving through the Philadelphia region, and several watches and warnings have been issued.

A Flood Advisory is in place Monday morning, and a Flood Warning continues through the afternoon. There is also a Flash Flood Watch through the evening.

The heavy rain and thunderstorms are causing trouble on the roads, and have prompted nearly 4,200 power PECO outages. The bulk of the power outages are in Chester County.

"Roadway flooding will continue through the next several hours until the water has time to drain. The flood advisory will continue until early this afternoon," the National Weather Service said around 9:30 a.m.

Several major highways reported delays due to flooding, including the Schuylkill Expressway. Many towns are experiencing local closures due to flooding. Drivers should leave extra time to get to their destinations this morning.

NBC10 reports some parts of the Philadelphia region have already received more than two inches of rain. Three inches or more could fall before the rain eases up late this morning.

More rain is possible in the afternoon before the skies clear at night. Expect cloudy skies with temperatures in the upper 40s Tuesday, with sunshine predicted for Wednesday.
