Newtown Quakers to Hear Former Fulbright Research Scholar in China

Doris Layton MacKenzie, former Professor of Criminology and a Fulbright Research Scholar to China will speak about her Spiritual Journey to the Newtown Meeting Adult Class at 9:45 Sunday October 12 at the Quaker Meetinghouse, 219 Court Street, Newtown (www.newtownfriendsmeeting.org). Meeting for Worship in the manner of Friends will follow at 11 a.m. The public is invited.

Doris MacKenzie was born and raised in Riverton, NJ where she attended the Episcopal church. She was married to David MacKenzie for almost 40 years before he died. They lived in NH, PA, Mexico, Philippines, Taiwan, LA, and VA.

Doris graduated from Penn State with a PH.D. in psychology and became a Professor of Criminology at LSU, U. Of Maryland, and Penn State. She was also a visiting scholar at the U.S. Dept of Justice and a Fulbright Research Scholar in China. She became a Quaker when she was in her fifties at Alexandria, VA, and is now a member of Newtown Meeting.

Doris and David were blessed with three children and now 7 grandchildren. Currently Doris Mackenzie lives in Pennswood Village, a Continuing Care Retirement Community adjacent to George School and Newtown Friends School, in Newtown, PA.

Newtown Friends Meeting is open to the public, with Sunday School classes for children and adults at 9:45 a.m. and worship based on expectant silence “after the manner of Friends” at 11 a.m.
