Pickleball Courts Planned, Target Opening Soon: Bucks Business Brief

Indoor pickleball court proposed in Newtown; new Target store continues to take shape in Doylestown.

BUCKS COUNTY, PA — Plans for a new indoor pickleball court are moving forward in Newtown Township.

Pending conditional use approval from the township, Utah-based Picklr is planning to open an 11-court indoor facility at the former Bed, Bath and Beyond Store at the Newtown Shopping Center on West Road.

The membership-only indoor facility, a first for Picklr in Pennsylvania, would include a pro shop, a private event area, league play, tournaments and drop-in play, court reservations, locker rooms, and showers.

Meanwhile, the new Target store continues to take shape in Doylestown as the summer opening date draws near.

When it opens, the new 74,500 square foot store will house a CVS Pharmacy and a Starbucks in addition to its retail operations. The new store also will offer an order pick-up service allowing customers to order in advance and pick up at the store without having to leave their vehicles.

Plans For 11-Court Pickleball Club Moving Forward In Newtown

Pickleball enthusiasts may soon have a new place to play America’s fastest-growing sport.The Newtown Township Planning Commission has recommended conditional use approval of plans by “The Picklr” to convert the former Bed, Bath & Beyond store into an indoor premier Pickleball Club. Plans by the Utah-based company call for the redevelopment of the 30,000-square-foot store at 20 West Road into an 11-court indoor playing facility that would be membership-only and offer unlimited play. Target Store Nearing Completion In Doylestown; July Opening Set

The signature red and white bullseye sign was lifted into place at the new Target store last week, a
sure sign that opening day is just weeks away at the Doylestown Shopping Center on North Main Street. The 74,500-square-foot store is scheduled to open during the week of July 20, according to Sean Sablosky, the CEO and founder of Arrow Real Estate Services, which handles the leasing of the shopping center property. “We’re real excited. Target is winding up its work. They are in there right now stocking shelves this week," said Sablosky. "This is exactly what the shopping center was built for. Cramer's Bakery Featured In Yardley Historical Program

The phrase "the cream always rises to the top" can certainly be applied to this business. As
it nears 80 years of operation, Cramer's Bakery will be the topic of discussion during a program on Sunday sponsored by the Yardley Historical Association. The program at 2 p.m. on Sunday, June 16 also includes the association's annual meeting. It will be held at the old library at 46 W. Afton Ave. The bakery at 16 E. Afton Ave. is a borough institution known for its raisin bars, Philadelphia butter cakes, donuts, gingerbread people, custom cakes, handmade baked goods, trays and gift baskets. Hundreds of Jobs Up for Grabs at Bucks Mid-Year Job Fair

While many are vacationing this summer, local job seekers can hit the ground running in terms of lining up the career of their dreams at the Bucks County Mid-Year Job Fair on June 26. Hosted by RecruitmentQueen, the career fair features a wide array of positions in various industries, including education, human service, health care, customer service, security and more. Several dozen local employers and hiring managers are expected to attend. Applicants will have the opportunity to ask employers specific questions about job openings, benefits available and what type of work environment they could anticipate. Held from 9:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Spring Mill Country Club, the career fair will feature hundreds of positions from numerous employers, including Presbyterian Senior Living, U.S. Security Care, AHEAD: Home Healthcare Services, Aging with Comfort, Humanus, Salute2Service, New Jersey Department of Corrections and Pennswood Village.

PA Biotechnology Center In Bucks Announces $250K Pitch Competition

On July 18, more than 100 scientists, entrepreneurs, business leaders, biotech investors and others will gather at the Pennsylvania Biotechnology Center (PABC) in Doylestown for the PABC’s 10th Annual Entrepreneur Spotlight, which this year features a major financial incentive: a $250,000 investment that will be made in the biotech company that wins the event’s pitch competition. Hatch BioFund, the venture capital fund affiliated with the PABC, will be making the investment. The Entrepreneur Spotlight will be held on July 18 from 3 to 5 p.m. at the PABC in Doylestown.
