NEWTOWN TOWNSHIP, PA — The Newtown Township Parks and Recreation Department is going to extremes this summer with a brand new summer program for teens.

The first-ever Teen Extreme Camp, designed for ages 13 to 15, will feature three weeks of fun, including daily field trips to amusement parks, water parks, and other destinations.

"The idea behind this camp is to give teens, ages 13-15, something fun to do during the summer. What better way to spend it than having different adventures every day?" said Matt Zipin, the township's assistant director of parks and recreation.

Zipin said exciting trips are planned during the three weeks of camp, including visits to Six Flags, Dorney Park, and Hersheypark. "We also encourage enrolling with a friend, as campers will have the opportunity to explore these parks independently."

The Teen Xtreme Camp includes three weekly sessions in July. Week 1 runs from July 13 to 17, Week 2 from July 20 to 24, and Week 3 from July 27 to 31. All sessions are Monday through Thursday, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., and will be based at Veterans Park. The camp focuses on adventure and discovery with no traditional classroom activities.

The fee for the Teen Xtreme Camp is $350 per week for residents and $400 per week for non-residents. The price covers all field trip admissions, transportation, and staff. Campers are advised to bring a water bottle and their lunch on specific days. They may also need money for food and drinks on certain trips where outside items are not permitted.

There are 45 spots available for the camp, and a minimum registration threshold must be met by Monday, March 23, for the program to proceed.

Touch A Truck

Looking ahead, the department will again be holding its hugely popular Touch A Truck event on Tuesday, March 31, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Veterans Park.

The free event will feature trucks and vehicles provided by the Newtown Township Public Works Department, the police department, emergency services and the Durham Bus Company.

The hands-on learning experience provides an educational outdoor opportunity for attendees of all ages to learn about how the vehicles work.

A rain date is set for Wednesday, April 1, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Updates regarding vehicle attendees and weather notifications will be posted on the event's Facebook page.
