Winter Storm Watch Issued, NWS Warns Of More Power Outages

Total snow accumulations of 6 to 9 inches likely in the Philadelphia area, with localized amounts of up to 12 inches possible.

A Winter Storm Watch has been called across the Philadelphia region, including in Bucks, Chester, Delaware and Montgomery counties starting Tuesday afternoon and going through Wednesday night, the National Weather Service just announced.

According to forecasters, "heavy mixed" precipitation is possible, with total snow accumulations of 6 to 9 inches likely. Localized amounts of up to 12 inches are possible and forecasters are warning of possible widespread power outages, the NWS said.

Significant reductions in visibility are possible, and snow will fall fast at times — one to three inches per hour.

Snow will likely start in the afternoon on Tuesday and go through Wednesday evening.

"Plan on difficult travel conditions, including during the evening commute on Wednesday," the NWS said.

"A period of heavy snow is also possible with the onset of the precipitation on Tuesday. Widespread power outages may develop Wednesday," the NWS warns. Wind gusts of up to 35 mph are predicted.

Residents should continue to monitor the forecast.
