3 Key COVID Metrics Improve In Montco For First Time In Months

NORRISTOWN, PA — For the first time in months, Montgomery County saw improvement in three of its key COVID-19 metrics last week. It's another encouraging sign even as the cooler weather approaches, and the vaccination rate continues to rise.

The three metrics that saw improvement were seven day average of total cases, 14 day average of total cases, and 14 day average percent positivity rate on tests. All three have not improved simultaneously since early in the summer.

"While these numbers are still higher than we'd like to see, the improvement is encouraging," Montgomery County Commissioner Val Arkoosh said.

Here's how metrics looked last week, according to county statistics:

• Seven day average: dropped from 135 to 127
• 14 day average: dropped from 145 to 136
• 14 day average percent positivity rate on tests: dropped from 5.39 percent to 5.17 percent

The county's positivity rate does still remain above the 5 percent "concerning" threshold, and officials continue to urge anyone who has not been vaccinated to sign up for their shot.

Last week, more than 5,000 Montgomery County residents were vaccinated, increasing the total number of eligible residents with at least one dose of the vaccine from 82 to 82.69 percent.
