Another Temple Student Dies: 2nd In A Week, 5th This Semester

James Orlando, 20, was found dead in an off-campus apartment on Dec. 2. He is the 5th Temple student to die this semester.

Once again, tragedy has struck Temple University. Over the weekend, a junior was found dead in an off-campus apartment, according to sources.

James Orlando, 20, passed away Dec. 2. In a GoFundMe page created to support his family, James, a junior, was described as a "carefree fun loving guy" who cherished moments with his friends. He was "proud to call himself an owl," the page said.

According to NBC10, Philadelphia Police and Temple Police responded to a 911 along the 1800 block of Berks Street. When authorities arrived, they located Orlando deceased, the report said.

The cause of death has not yet been released.

Meanwhile, his loved ones are grieving the man who was "always first to crack a joke to ease tension and the first to make someone feel welcome."

This is the second Temple University student to die within the past week. Michael Paytas, 24, of Delaware County died after being found unresponsive in the Samuel Paley Library on Nov. 27.

In addition to Orlando and Paytas, three other Temple students have died this semester. One student was killed in early September, another committed suicide in October, and a third was shot and killed by police in Florida, also in October.
