Phoenixville Schools Score Well Above National Average On AP, SAT

Students at Phoenixville Area High School significantly outperformed their peers across the nation in 2014, according to statistics released by the school district.

Phoenixville’s average SAT score was at least twenty points higher than the national average in all three portions of the test.

Phoenixville scored 538 in Reading (average 497), 537 in Math (513 average), and 528 in Writing (487 average).

AP scores, meanwhile, show similar dominance, with 25% of students that took the tests earning a ‘5’, 27% of students a 4, and 26% a 3. That means that 78% of students that took one of the AP tests scored high enough to earn college credit at certain institutions.

Nationally, only 49% of a school’s test takers score 3 or higher.

According to the district, Phoenixville has increased the number of AP tests taken from 210 in 2009, to 663 in 2014.
