Pittsburgh Grocery Store Again Slapped With Consumer Alert

The alert was the third issued for the store in less than a year.

PITTSBURGH, PA — The Allegheny County Health Department last week issued a consumer alert for a Lawrenceville grocery store that has had repeatedly has had alerts placed on it.

The alert was issued on Oct. 25 for the Shop 'N Save on Butler Street in Lawrenceville after an inspector found a freshly dead mouse on a glue board behind the bread. There also were droppings found around bags of flour that had been chewed by pests.

  • Droppings also were found in the following areas:
  • On a shelf behind gravy packets and canned gravy.
  • On a shelf around rice crackers.
  • On a shelf around bagged mashed potatoes.
  • On a shelf around the candy near the beer area.
  • On a shelf around the boxed cake mix.
  • On the floor under the bakery display cases.
  • On the floor around the beer coolers in the beer area.
  • On the floor under bagged gravy.
  • On the floor under tortillas and rice.

Additionally, old nesting material was found on the floor under the tortillas.

The alert was removed on Oct. 27, according to health department documents.

This was the third alert issued for the store in the past year. The others occurred in December 2022 and in September.
