WARMINSTER, PA —Warminster Township had hoped to hire four new officers to join its police force.

And with two already on board, a third new officer has been added to the ranks. But that hiring will fill a replacement for a retiring officer, Police Chief James Donnelly said.

Donnelly said that other candidates are in the pipeline and could be presented to supervisors at upcoming meetings. The supervisors are meeting Thursday, but an agenda has not yet been released.

At its last meeting, Warminster Township Supervisors welcomed Michael R. Giantomasso to the police department after he was sworn in by Magisterial Judge Daniel J. Finello Jr. before family and friends.

Donnelly said that Giantomasso is replacing Officer Carol Fawdy, who retired at the end of June after serving 27 years with the police department.

The 25-year-old officer is a graduate of Pierce College with a criminal justice degree. He attended the Montgomery County Police Academy to receive his certification.

Before joining Warminster, Giantomasso served as a police officer in the 35th precinct of the Philadelphia Police Department for nine months.

He is the second recent officer hired from the Philadelphia Police Department.

In May, the township hired Officer Corey Farrell, who had worked for 13 years in the police department in the 19th, 39th, and 2nd precincts.

In early February, the police department hired Morgan Hein, 24, a quadruplet from Sinking Springs who graduated from Penn State University and the Montgomery County Police Academy.

She was the first addition announced after supervisors said in late December that four police officers would be hired after unanimously ratifying a new five-year agreement with the Warminster Police Benevolent Association.

Giantomasso's mother Kathy —whom he calls his No. 1 supporter —held the Bible during the ceremony.

He's one of four children, the second oldest among two sisters and a brother. He grew up in Huntingdon Valley.

"I'm sure he will be a great asset," the judge said to a round of applause. "We are certainly going to wish him well."
