YARDLEY, PA —The Yardley Borough Council filled two vacant seats in September. But then its membership was put before voters who rejected a ballot question to reduce the council from seven to five members. Meanwhile, Lower Makefield Township is getting a Wegmans.

In early September, Yardley Borough had to fill two council vacancies after two members moved out of town. The council appointed Don Don Carlson and David Appelbaum to fill two seats. Then, not long after, a resident petitioned to have a question on the Nov. 8 ballot to have the council reduced from seven to five members due to the borough's size. The measure was defeated by voters. The council had also filled vacancies earlier in the year as well.

Lower Makefield Wegmans Development Land Clearing Begins

A planned development including a Wegmans grocery store got underway in May with land-clearing operations in Lower Makefield for Prickett Preserve at Edgewood. The 37-acre project includes a 100,000-square-foot Wegmans, 200 luxury apartments, 55,000 square feet for retail space, a pharmacy, and restaurants.

Bucks Deputy Tried To Have Bar Fight Footage Erased: Police

A Bucks County Sheriff's Office deputy tried to have video surveillance footage erased of an October bar fight she was in at the Continental Tavern because she was worried about losing her job, police said.

Hallmark Holiday This Weekend At Shady Brook Farm

Shady Brook Farm, which draws visitors to its light show, also drew the Hallmark Channel this holiday season. The Lower Makefield Township farm was one of eight in the nation chosen by the Hallmark Channel to promote its holiday programming event, "Countdown to Christmas."

Threats Made Against 3 Pennsbury Schools: Superintendent

Just after the school year started, Pennsbury Schools Superintendent Thomas Smith sent a letter to parents saying that a threat had been made against three township schools. After a police investigation, the threats turned out to be unsubstantiated. By the end of the year, a feasibility study was issued regarding a potential merger between Pennsbury and the Morrisville School District.
