New Details Emerge In Human Remains Case In Lower Makefield

Lower Makefield Police provided an update after human remains were found following a vehicle fire at a cemetery last week.

LOWER MAKEFIELD TOWNSHIP, PA —Lower Makefield Township Police have provided an update on their investigation involving human remains found following a vehicle fire at a cemetery last week.

Deputy Police Chief Bob Lewis told Patch Tuesday that the owner has been identified of the vehicle that was parked in the St. Ignatius Cemetery off River Road.

Lewis did not identify the owner but said the car was registered locally. He also said that the vehicle was not reported stolen.

Meanwhile, authorities are awaiting results from The Bucks County Coroner's Office on the identity of the human remains and the cause of death, Lewis said.

The Bucks County Coroner's Office was expected to perform a dental exam for identification purposes this week.

Lewis did not say when those results will be released. He said that investigations can take a while.

When asked about the incident, Lewis replied: "This is unusual."

Last Wednesday night, Police and the Yardley-Makefield Fire Department responded to the River Road cemetery for the report of a brush fire.

Police and the fire department determined that the fire was in a vehicle located at the rear of the the cemetery property. Fire crews extinguished the vehicle fire and then discovered that human remains were inside the vehicle.

The human remains were located in the driver’s seat of the vehicle.
