10 Years And 1 Month For MA Man Trafficking 3 Pounds Of Meth

The Rhode Island DEA developed information on the Lawrence man, according to the U.S. Attorney's Office.

PROVIDENCE, RI — A Massachusetts man was sentenced to 10 years and one month in federal prison for trafficking more than a pound of crystal methamphetamine, according to the U.S. Attorney's Office.

Hector Gonzalez Michel, 35, was sentenced last week in U.S. District Court in Providence, the U.S. Attorney's Office said in a media release.

“Methamphetamine trafficking continues to pose a serious threat to public safety and well-being of our communities,” U.S. Attorney Charles C. Calenda said in a media release.

“This sentence holds the defendant accountable and reflects the tireless work of our law enforcement partners to disrupt the flow of dangerous drugs throughout New England,” Calenda said.

The Rhode Island Drug Administration Task Force developed information on Gonzalez Michel, learning that he planned to "deliver a substantial quantity of crystal meth to an individual in Boston," according to the release.

"Rhode Island and Boston DEA Task Force agents and Boston Police Detectives later intercepted the delivery as he arrived outside a Boston residence where he was delivering the drugs," the release said. "Police recovered approximately 3.4 pounds of crystal methamphetamine stored inside a small cooler that Gonzalez Michel was carrying."

Gonzalez Michel had pleaded guilty to conspiracy to distribute and possess with intent to distribute 500 grams or more of methamphetamine.
