Roger Wheeler State Beach Boardwalk and Bulkhead Project Set For May Completion

NARRAGANSETT, RI — The Roger Wheeler State Beach boardwalk and bulkhead project is set to be completed in May, according to the state.

The project began in August 2024 with the replacement and expansion of the east side boardwalk and bulkhead, and the relocation of the town’s waterline within the parking area which was originally installed in the 1950s.

The new facility will have 600 more feet of guardrailed boardwalk supported by a new concrete retaining wall extending from each side of the existing beach pavilion.

"The boardwalk will feature new shade structures, sidewalks, foot washing stations, and concrete benches," according to Rhode Island State Parks.

The project is primarily funded by $3.1M in federal funding through the Land and Water Conservation Fund and the voter-approved 2021 Beach, Clean Water, and Green Economy Bond, according to the state.
