Coronavirus: East Greenwich Addresses Town Budget Issues
Officials said "there remains many unknowns" about how the health crisis will impact the budget that has to be adopted by June 30.
EAST GREENWICH, RI — East Greenwich town officials said "there remains many unknowns" about how the new coronavius health crisis will impact the town budget that has to be adopted by June 30. Town officials released a budget statement on Thursday that said the town is "better positioned than many of our neighbors in that our timetable allows us until late June for the Council to adopt a budget."
The added time, officials said, will allow the town council to have a better sense of available funds before final decisions have to be made.
"There remains many unknowns, including municipal/education state aid, revenue forecasts on tax collections, possible cost reduction measures, and questions about the Federal Cares Act stimulus," officials said. "We will be balancing all of these interests with your input in order to position the community for a robust and accelerated effort to get us back to the quality of life that we all want in our community."
