Failures to Stop at Red Light, Appear in Court Bring Local Arrests

Traffic stops have led to the recent arrests of two Middletown men. Local police reported the following arrests:

• On Monday around 8 pm, Middletown police arrested Christopher P. Cooper, 20, of no permanent address in Middletown, on allegations of marijuana possession, driving under the influence of alcohol, driving with an expired license, and resisting arrest, after stopping his 1992 red Toyota after allegedly going through a red stop light at Oliphant Lane and West Main Road. Police reports indicate that arresting officers had to physically restrain Cooper to the ground after he reached into his waste band and refused to show police officers  his hands. When he was lifted from the ground, officers reportedly also found a small bag of marijuana that later tested positive for TLC. A preliminary breath test registered a .158 blood-alcohol content, police reported.

• Charles Reeves, 30, of Stockton Drive, Middletown, was arrested by Portsmouth police on a bench warrant Sunday following a traffic stop. Officers stopped the vehicle operated by Reeves around 3:20 a.m. on West Main Road near Stringham Road. The vehicle allegedly traveled over the fog line. Reeves was wanted on a bench warrant for failure to appear at a restitution review. He was brought back to the police station for processing and later transported to the Adult Correctional Institutions (ACI) in Cranston.
