Five Weekend Arrests Reported

Middletown police reported five arrests from the weekend of Oct. 1 to Oct. 3, 2010 in cases that involved domestic disputes, shoplifting and outstanding arrest warrants:

• Herbi S. Jeik, 45, of 237 Rogers Lane, Middletown, was arrested around 1:30 a.m. Sunday, while walking near St. Lucy's Catholic Church after police picked him up on an outstanding arrest warrant for failing to pay $218.50 in fines., according to police reports.

• Police arrested James A. Aguiar, 25, of 294 Hope St., Apt. #2 East, Fall River, MA, on a misdemeanor charge of domestic disorderly conduct after responding to a report that a man was screaming in the street on Woolsey Road. According to police reports, officers who arrived on scene observed a "large group of people yelling and screaming at each other," and that Aguiar allegedly told police, "I'm the one causing the problem." Upon further questioning, a neighbor and witness told police that Aguiar had been outside screaming for his wife, who was visiting with family next door. The witness said he called police when Aguiar entered his property outside and began screaming to her from there. According to the arrest report, the wife told police she had refused to go outside because she had become "frightened" when Aguiar began screaming.

• On Saturday around 2:15 pm, police arrested Robert A. Esposito, 47, of 9 Parkside Drive, Johnston, RI, and Donna M. Esposito, 42, of 661 High Street, Apt. #2, Fall River, MA, each on one obstruction of justice charge and three misdemeanor counts of receiving stolen goods after allegedly finding the husband and wife with stolen goods in their car at the Taco Bell on West Main Road. According to police reports, the recovered items had an approximate combined value of $700 and had been confirmed as stolen from area retail stores including Michael's Crafts, Tuesday Morning, and Home Depot.

• On Saturday around 4:40 a.m., police arrested Arthur M. Aikens, 21, of 9 Park Holm, Newport, on a misdemeanor charge of domestic assault and for allegedly breaking a cell phone, after police responded to a call at 7 Shangri-La Lane. According to police reports, the victim reported a foot and chest injury that allegedly resulted after Aikens, her boyfriend, had "tossed her around" after coming home, pushed her from bed, and later grabbed her by the chest when she tried to get him to leave. When she threatened to call police, he allegedly took her cell phone, left her residence and "smashed" her cell phone to pieces outside. Newport Police reportedly later picked up Aikens and he was brought to the Middletown Police Station for processing.

• Police also reported that Aikens had an outstanding arrest warrant for a misdemeanor charge from the Second District Court in an unrelated matter.
