(newportri.com) — Despite heavy recent rain, Narragansett residents are still under outdoor water restrictions because the Mink Brook aquifer that supplies the town remains about 20% below normal. State drought officials have eased the overall drought level but kept an advisory in place, stressing that groundwater recharge is lagging even as storms continue.
   

• Gansett schools show interest in shared leader (jamestownpress.com) — Narragansett school officials recently met with another district to explore an unprecedented part-time shared superintendent model that could cut costs while maintaining leadership. Several options are on the table, from restoring a full-time superintendent to reducing days, and local leaders say discussions went well but no decisions have been made yet.
   

• URI professor receives $4 million for wetland restoration, partnering with LSU for research (rhodycigar.com) — Rhode Island's coastal wetlands, including the Narragansett Bay National Estuarine Research Reserve, will be central to a new $4 million NSF‑funded project led by URI professor Ying Zhang. Her team and LSU partners will study restoration techniques, biodiversity, AI‑driven monitoring, and economic incentives to help policymakers and private landowners better protect flood‑buffering wetlands across the state.
