NEWPORT, RI — A Thames Street restaurant is among the familiar places featured tomorrow on ABC's "The Chew."

Carla Hill, star of the show, hit three Little Rhody high spots, starting with the Ocean House in Watch Hill, according to Lara Salamano, of Commerce RI.

Hill stayed overnight at Ocean House on Sept. 15, before moving on to the Newport eatery, Stoneacre Pantry. Finally, she took in a cooking class at Johnson & Wales in Cranston and at the Cuisinart Center in Providence.

Salamano, an East Greenwich resident, contacted "The Chew" with the concept to showcase Rhode Island. The plan was to highlight the growing "farm to table" movement here, she said.

So she started with a long list of tasty possibilities.

It happened she's eaten at Stoneacre Pantry and likes it.

"I've been there; I love food myself," she said. She also liked the owners' story. They're from Rhode Island originally, moved to New York and then relocated back home.

On the segment, which airs at 1 p.m. on Channel 6, gazpacho is on the Newport menu. But pretty much everything is fresh grown on local farms, according to Alexa Battista of Havas PR.

Some greens come from Indie Growers in Bristol; potatoes from Portsmouth's Maplewood Farm; the honey and milk, vegetables and beef all came from the area.

At the last stop, Johnson & Wales University, Battista said, "the chefs and students prepared fresh pasta with three different sauces: Rhode Island Bolognese Sauce, Confreda Farms Tomato Basil Sauce and Del Duca® Prosciutto and Rhode Island Mushroom Carbonara," she said.
