• Newport Hospital is first in Rhode Island with the da Vinci 5 surgical robot (whatsupnewp.com) — Newport residents now have access to Rhode Island's first da Vinci 5 surgical robot at Newport Hospital, funded entirely through community donations. The advanced system will support minimally invasive urology, gynecology, thoracic, and general surgeries, complementing the hospital's existing robotic knee replacement technology and strengthening high-tech care close to home.
   

• $271 million contract awarded to rebuild Pier 1 at Naval Station Newport for Coast Guard cutters (whatsupnewp.com) — A massive $271.2 million federal contract will rebuild Pier 1 at Naval Station Newport, paving the way for four Coast Guard cutters to homeport here and boosting activity along the city's waterfront. Combined with NOAA's new Marine Operations Center-Atlantic at Coddington Cove, the projects are expected to bring hundreds of federal workers, military personnel, and families to Newport and neighboring towns over the next several years.
