County and statewide averages were higher at $4.37, reflecting broader volatility tied to global oil markets and refinery conditions. 4. Newport museum founder championed American illustrators (wcvb.com) — Newport residents may be surprised that the National Museum of American Illustration on Bellevue Avenue, currently closed for renovations, grew from one woman's 50‑year crusade for commercial art. Founder Goffman Cutler built a nationally known collection of Rockwell, Parrish, Wyeth and others after the fine‑art world initially dismissed her focus, and she still oversees the Newport museum while running a New York gallery.
