Little Compton Police and Schools Concerned About Vandalized Tennis Courts
The Little Compton Police and school district are urging parents and guardians to make sure their children are not using the town's recreational facilities unsupervised.
The and will be stepping up their efforts to monitor unsupervised use of the town’s recreational facilities after young people reportedly vandalized the tennis courts late last week.
Police responded to the school district at 12:10 p.m. on Thursday, April 14, after a resident reported that kids were vandalizing the tennis courts. A report was taken and followed up with the schools.
Principal James Gibney sent letters home to parents the next day stating that people rode bicycles through the tennis court nets, ripped them and also damaged the public seating in the courts provided by the town.

On Tuesday, duct tape was holding the top of one net together.
“Many young people have been seen in that area both during the day and in the early evening,” Gibney wrote. “Unfortunately, these young people have in many cases been unsupervised. There is a feeling that these young people have more than likely either observed or participated in this vandalism.”

Gibney urges parents and guardians to make sure their children are not using the town’s recreational facilities unsupervised, and to immediately report anything noticed to the police department.
“We need to pull together as a community to make sure that the tax dollars that have gone to recreational programs, activities and facilities are not damaged by callous people who evidently are not concerned about recreational facilities that belong to all the residents of Little Compton," Gibney wrote in the letter.
