• USDA pledges $1 million to address Tiverton PFAS issues (eastbayri.com) — Tiverton has secured a $1 million USDA emergency grant to extend public water lines to Crandall Road homes hit hardest by PFAS contamination, some with levels too high for filtration. Work bids are going out immediately so residents can be connected before the first snowfall, while officials pursue more funding, investigate the contamination source, and offer mental health support sessions at Fort Barton School. 
• Three Newport County ponds among 25 waters getting fall trout stocking (whatsupnewp.com) — Stafford Pond and Eight Rod Farm Pond in Tiverton are set to be stocked with brook and rainbow trout between Oct. 2 and Oct. 8, giving local anglers fresh opportunities close to home. You'll need a 2026 Rhode Island fishing license, and most adults keeping trout must also buy a Trout Conservation Stamp, both available online through DEM's licensing portal.
