Batesburg-Leesville Man Indicted for Failure to Register as Sex Offender

The case is part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative designed to protect children from exploitation and abuse.

A Batesburg-Leesville man was indicted Wednesday by a federal grand jury in Columbia for failure to register as a sex offender. 

Charles W. Naumann, 31, was charged in a one-count indictment and faces 10 years in prison and a maximum fine of $250,000 as well as a lifetime term of supervised release, according to U.S. Attorney Bill Nettles.

The case is part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative designed to protect children from exploitation and abuse.

The case was investigated by agents of the U.S. Marshals Service and the Lexington County Sheriff's Department. and is assigned to Assistant United States Attorney Jamie Lea Nabors Schoen of the Greenville office for prosecution.
