1. 2 District 5 schools earn Magnet Schools of America recertification (lexingtonchronicle.com) — Families in Lexington-Richland District Five can celebrate as H.E. Corley Elementary and Leaphart Elementary have both earned national recertification from Magnet Schools of America, highlighting strong magnet options for local students. The schools were recognized for rigorous, innovative programs in leadership, Montessori, and STEAM that emphasize project-based learning, student choice, and preparation for future success.
   

2. SC: 71-year-old man charged in strip mall assault (wyff4.com) — State investigators say a 71-year-old man intentionally pinned someone between two vehicles at the Saluda Pointe strip mall in Lexington, leading to a second-degree assault and battery charge. The victim briefly lost leg function and needed outpatient treatment, and Lexington Police requested SLED to handle the investigation at the center that includes Starbucks and several other businesses.
   

3. Superintendent addresses weapons found at Lexington middle school (wach.com) — Lexington One's superintendent is reassuring families after a kitchen knife and a loaded handgun were found in separate incidents in students' backpacks at Carolina Springs Middle School, with no injuries or threats identified. He emphasized that all students and staff are safe, detailed the district's immediate, coordinated safety response, and urged families, students, staff, and law enforcement to keep working together to report and address concerns.
   

4. Lexington country singer snags Josie Music Awards nomination (lexingtonchronicle.com) — Lexington country artist Catoe White has earned a Josie Music Awards nomination for his single "90 Something Country," competing for Traditional/Classic Country Song of the Year. Rooted in '90s-style country and co-written with Nashville songwriter Pete Sallis, the track showcases White's traditional sound as his audience grows across the Southeast ahead of the Sept. 20 awards ceremony.
   

5. Columbia drug trafficking leader sentenced to 20 years (wach.com) — A major federal drug case that affected Lexington County has ended with a 20-year prison sentence for a Columbia man who helped distribute large quantities of meth, cocaine, fentanyl, and other drugs across the Columbia and Lexington County areas. Lexington County deputies worked alongside federal and Columbia authorities on the investigation, which also uncovered firearms and prior drug convictions.
