Court Appoints Trustee to Take Over Lexington Lawyer's Files, Accounts

A Columbia attorney is taking over the files and bank accounts of prominent Lexington lawyer Richard Breibart, the S.C. Supreme Court recently ordered. 

The court suspended Breibart's license to practice law on June 1 but did not give a reason for the decision, according to court documents. 

Mark Barrow, appointed by the court "to protect the interests" of Breibart's clients, will be in charge of on West Main Street in Lexington until further notice from the court.

Friends of Breibart told The State newspaper that he was in a coma in the hospital for weeks due to a blood clot in the brain. He was sent home last weekend but is going through speech and physical therapy.

Attempts to access the website for Breibart's law offices Friday led to a "URL not found" message.

The office's Facebook page is still active but does not mention anything about Breibart's suspension.

A man who appears to be a client of the law firm posted on the page and was concerned with his legal representation.

"So, what's the deal? Are you guys closed permanently?," the man wrote. "How can I get my legal file returned and get a refund of the money I paid for you to represent me?"

The firm did not reply to the man's comment.
