Everyone Loves a (Christmas) Parade

Lexington Christmas parade slated for Sunday afternoon along Main Street

Coming fresh on the heels of Lexington's 36th Annual Carolighting ceremony, the festive cheer just keeps rolling along.

On Sunday, Dec. 4, the town will conduct its annual Christmas parade at 3:30 p.m., which will proceed along Main Street.

But the fun and conviviality doesn't end there. In addition to the parade, the newly formed Historic Lexington Business Association is planning its first event, "Christmas on Main," to coincide with the parade. Participating merchants, business, and professional practice owners on Main Street will decorate for the season and offer refreshments to the public from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m.

A traffic reminder

If you plan to be driving through the downtown area Sunday afternoon, don't expect to just cruise along. Between 3 p.m. and 5 p.m. on the day of the parade, Lexington Police said town residents and businesses should be aware of delays on the following streets:

  • US Highway 1/Main Street (Between Harmon Street and Columbia Avenue)
  • SC Highway 6/Lake Drive (Between Corley Street and Gibson Road)
  • South Church Street at Main
  • Third at Main
  • West Butler Street
  • North Church Street (Between South Lake Drive and Main)
  • Berly Street
  • Meetze Avenue at Butler

Further, between 5 p.m. and 8 p.m., Main Street will be closed from Church Street to Lake Drive to accomodate "Christmas on Main." Traffic will be detoured around Maiden Lane and West Butler Street.

Also, southbound truck traffic will be detoured from East Main Street onto Harmon Street to Columbia Avenue. Northbound trucks will be detoured from West Main Street onto Columbia Avenue, then to Harmon Street.
