Lexington gets ready for new restaurant

Mellow Mushroom, the funky Atlanta-based pizzeria, set to open Lexington location Monday

Pizza lovers who want to get their "Mellow" on will no longer have it harshed by having to drive all the way to Columbia.

Mellow Mushroom Pizza Bakers says in a release it is scheduled to open its newest South Carolina location, near downtown Lexington, on Monday. The pizzeria is located at 5364 Sunset Blvd., across from the Golden Hills Country Club.

Mellow Mushroom features a creative menu with an assortment of pizzas, hoagies, salads, calzones, appetizers, vegetarian and vegan options, and gluten-free crust. Diners can also enjoy eating outdoors on two large patios, according to the company. Owners Chuck Watson and John Wallace say they are looking forward to bringing the Mellow to Lexington.

Started in 1974 by three enterprising college students in Atlanta in a "hole in the wall" near the Georgia Tech campus, Mellow Mushroom's hallmark for the past 37 years has been serving up fresh stone-baked pizza’s to-order in an eclectic, art-filled environment. Each Mellow is locally owned and operated with a unique feel, focused around great customer service and quality, the company says.

The new Lexington location will be the 13th and newest location in South Carolina.
