UPDATE: Chattanooga's new beer permit ordinance no longer requires annual renewal (wrcbtv.com) — If you run or visit bars and restaurants in Chattanooga, a new city ordinance means beer permits generally no longer need yearly renewal, unless ownership, location, name, or legal issues change. The measure tightens enforcement by making unpermitted beer sales a Class C misdemeanor, while aiming to streamline the process and reduce routine Beer Board cases.
   

2. Chattanooga city council to consider property tax increase cap (wdef.com) — Chattanooga residents could soon see a formal cap on how much property taxes can rise each year, as a council member proposes limiting increases to 12% over the previous fiscal year. Supporters say the cap would protect homeowners already paying both city and county taxes, though a future supermajority of the council could override it.
   

3. Chattanooga FC elects to face higher-seed NYC FC II in MLS Next Pro Playoffs (newschannel9.com) — Chattanooga FC has surged into the MLS Next Pro playoffs as the Eastern Conference's No. 2 seed and has chosen to host higher-seeded NYC FC II in a first-round showdown at Finley Stadium on October 18. With only one loss since May and double-digit home wins, the club will use closed-door scrimmages, including one against Nashville SC, to stay sharp before fans pack the stands.
   

4. Chattanooga Recognized For Becoming North America's 1st National Park City (chattanoogan.com) — Chattanooga's new status as North America's first National Park City just earned it a spot on Condé Nast Traveler's "Bright Ideas in Travel" list for 2026, spotlighting the city's nature access and conservation work. Local leaders say this national and international attention helps keep Chattanooga visible to visitors and supports a growing tourism economy that generated $1.9 billion in Hamilton County visitor spending last year.
   

5. Students Get Hands-On Energy Lessons (wdef.com) — Middle schoolers from the Chattanooga area spent a day at Harrison Bay State Park building energy-efficient model homes and exploring clean energy concepts through hands-on activities. Supported by Chattanooga Gas and the NEED Project, the workshops are part of a broader initiative that has reached more than 12,500 local students since 2025 and highlights future energy-related career paths.
