Federal judge to sanction alleged Sean Williams victim for bribery claims without evidence (wcyb.com) — A federal judge has ruled that a woman suing Johnson City police over their handling of convicted sex offender Sean Williams had no evidence to support her bribery allegations against a former investigations captain and will face sanctions. The judge will decide the specific penalties later, and still must rule on the captain's request to end the case against him, while other claims against Johnson City and additional officers continue.

Tri-Cities municipalities feeling impact of high diesel prices (wjhl.com) — Rising diesel prices are squeezing Johnson City's fuel budget, but city leaders say they can still absorb the higher costs without cutting services for now. Officials are emphasizing fuel conservation, contract buying, and exploring alternative fuels for school buses as they track prices closely alongside Kingsport and Bristol.
   

3. ETSU Bucs basketball holds show and tell for the fans (wjhl.com) — ETSU men's basketball gave Johnson City fans an early look at this year's team with a meet-the-squad practice inside Brooks Gym. With four returners and a fresh group of newcomers, Coach Brooks Savage says the Bucs have the talent and work ethic to build on last season's 23–11 record and chase another Southern Conference title.
   

4. Surveillance Company Wants to Add Facial Recognition to Flock Cameras (bespacific.com) — Johnson City police were contacted by surveillance firm VIDIZMO, which pitched software to run facial recognition and other analytics on data from Flock license plate readers and Axon body cameras in a single searchable system. Records obtained by a local watchdog group show the outreach, though Johnson City PD says it never took a call, while the company still hopes to build such integrations nationwide.
