1. CRNA Took Laryngoscope Blades Home, Modified Them, and Reused Them on Patients (nurse.org) — Patients at Johnson City Medical Center were notified after a former nurse anesthetist admitted taking single-use laryngoscope blades home, modifying them, and reusing them without proper sterilization. State nursing officials have revoked his credentials, while Paragon Anesthesia and Ballad Health say they removed him from practice, reviewed safety protocols, and offered affected patients bloodborne pathogen testing. 
2. ETSU to recognize Dolly Parton with weeklong celebration (wjhl.com) — ETSU in Johnson City is hosting a weeklong "For the Love of Dolly" celebration, inviting students and neighbors to honor Dolly Parton's life and legacy. Panels, open-mic performances of her songs, a drone show segment, and a tribute banner will give the community space to reflect on her regional impact and the kind of legacy they hope to leave.
3. Jonesborough nears finish line on its portion of First Frontier Trail (wcyb.com) — A new First Frontier Trail segment will soon let you walk or bike between downtown Jonesborough and Johnson City near ETSU, eventually tying into the popular Tweetsie Trail. Johnson City crews are beginning their portion while also upgrading water and sewer lines, and parts of the route are already open for residents eager to explore the growing regional trail network.
4. Two ETSU professors appointed to new Tennessee Music Advisory Council (wjhl.com) — Two East Tennessee State University professors based in Johnson City have been appointed to Tennessee's new Music Advisory Council, giving this area a direct voice in shaping the state's music economy. The group will use research to map music's economic impact, identify gaps from big cities to small communities, and present recommendations to the governor in early 2027.
5. Johnson City Man Enters Alford Plea On Greeneville Rape Charges (wgrv.com) — A man listed as a homeless Johnson City resident has entered an Alford plea to four reduced counts of statutory rape in Greene County Criminal Court, avoiding trial while maintaining his claim of innocence. He received an eight-year sentence with credit for time served and will spend the remaining six and a half years on probation after an incident reported at a Kiser Boulevard apartment.
