Driver In Cedar Park Wreck That Killed 2 Children Still In Coma

Police recreated last week's deadly, two-vehicle wreck in trying to determine its cause and say more details are imminent.

CEDAR PARK, TX β€” The woman critically wounded in a two-vehicle crash that killed two children last week remains in a coma as police continue investigating the cause of the crash, police said Wednesday.

Previously identified as Zara Salman, 32, the woman was driving at Whitestone Boulevard and Walton Way when her car collided with another vehicle on Jan. 10. Elijah Chaudhary, 9, and Daniel Chaudhary, 1, were both killed in the crash.

In an update to media outlets, a Cedar Park Police Department spokeswoman said a traffic team recreated the crash on Monday as part of their investigation. The spokeswoman, Alicia Inns, inferred charges could be pending as a result of the crash. Two occupants of the either car involved were uninjured.

"We have been working with and having conversations with the District Attorney’s Office and we can confidently say you can expect additional new information by the end of this week," Inns wrote in her advisory. "We will not elaborate on what that means – I just wanted to update you on the timeline."

Officials at Winkley Elementary School in Leander last week provided grief counseling services to students after the death of the nine-year-old who perished in the crash, as Patch previously reported. Funeral services for him and his one-year-old stepbrother have since taken place.

A GoFundMe campaign has since been launched to help the family of the dead children and injured driver with expenses related to the tragedy.

The incident marks the second traffic fatality in less than a year on Whitestone Boulevard. In late April 2017, Raquel Kocher, 56, was involved in a two-vehicle wreck along the 900 block of West Whitestone Boulevard. According to police, Kocher was attempting to turn eastbound on Whitestone when she pulled in front of oncoming traffic.
