Man Who Caused Crash That Killed 2 Boys Gets 7 Years In Prison
Hayden Michael Hammer was 18 when he caused fatal wreck that took the lives of a one- and eight-year-old and left mom seriously hurt.

CEDAR PARK, TX — The man responsible for the deaths of two children while street racing in Cedar Park last year was sentenced to 7 years in prison and a decade of probation, according to reports.
Hayden Michael Hammer was 18 when he caused a Jan. 10, 2018, fatal wreck that took the lives of a one- and eight-year-old and seriously injured the former child's mother. In covering the trial, KVUE reported on a dramatic moment in the trial when the injured mom shamed the man for causing the fatal wreck while street racing, recalling how he seemed more preoccupied about damage to his vehicle.
To illustrate her grief during a victim's impact statement, the woman held up the shirt her 8-year-old son wore on the day he died while telling Hammer is still smelled of fuel, the news station reported.

Williamson County District Attorney Shawn Dick noted Hammer would be eligible for parole after just three-and-a-half years behind bars, but he plans to protest the possibility once that arrives.

Hammer was charged with two counts of racing on a highway causing death — a second-degree felony — in the aftermath of the wreck. The two-car, daytime crash occurred when a 2008 Dodge Ram driven by Hammer collided with a 2016 Nissan Rogue. The younger child, Daniel Chaudhary, and Elijah Chaudhary, 8, died at the scene.
