Body Recovered From Lake Austin Identified

Christopher White, 25, had traveled from Minneapolis for ACL Fest before he went missing from a rental house fronting Colorado River.

AUSTIN, TEXAS — The body pulled from Lake Austin over the weekend has been positively identified as the Minneapolis resident who had gone missing after attending the ACL Music Festival, police said Wednesday.

On Oct. 6, a missing person report was issued for Christopher Jay White, 25, of Minneapolis after friends reported he was last seen at a rental house where he was staying at the 3000 block of Smokey Ridge. The man's friends told police they last saw White between 5 a.m. and 6 am. after he mentioned going to the dock fronting the Colorado River, although nobody saw him leave the house.

Working with teams from the Austin Police Department, Travis County Search and Rescue and Texas Parks and Wildlife, Travis County Sheriff's Office members conducted grid searches in the land and water throughout the weekend and again on Monday, Oct. 8. By around 1 pm. on Monday, a person called 911 to report a body floating on Lake Austin.

The body was recovered and positively identified by the Travis County Medical Examiner as White. The cause and manner of death is pending the Medical Examiner’s final ruling, sheriff's officials said. There was no evidence of foul play, officials added.
