Coronavirus: Travis County Illness Count 690, With 2 More Deaths

The number of cases of respiratory illness across the county grew by 49 in the past 24 hours, with a total of nine fatalities to date.

AUSTIN, TX — The rate of coronavirus across Travis County grew by 48 in the course of the last 24 hours for a total of 690 with two additional deaths reported on Friday. The new number represents an exponential increase from the 430 cases reported last Friday, April 3.

Austin Public Health updates data related to the growing illness threat on a daily basis on a dashboard created to apprise the public of the reach of infection. The respiratory illness caused by the COVID-19 virus is transmitted via respiratory droplets emitted by coughing or sneezing.

On Thursday, the illness count in Travis County stood at 642 and seven deaths in the county.

Among the afflicted in Travis County, 89 are being treated on an in-patient basis, 47 are at intensive care units and 31 on ventilators, according to the county=provided data.

In neighboring Williamson County, health officials said seven more cases of infection were confirmed during the same 24-hour period, bringing the total there to 110.

Statewide, the number of cases grew by 1,141 on Friday for a total of 11,671, as reported by the Texas Department of State Health Services. Along with the increase, 27 additional fatalities were reported during the same time period, according to the agency's data. All told, 226 people have died in Texas after being infected with the COVID-19 virus.

Amid the grim task of counting up confirmed cases, hospitalizations and deaths from the result of the illness outbreak, state health officials noted in their last update that 1,366 patients have recovered after coming down with the respiratory illness.
