Good Chance Of Showers Added To Austin Wintry Mix

The bad news: A pretty good chance of rain is being forecast in adding to the cold. The good news: No more freezing temps!

AUSTIN, TX — Increased chances for showers in the Austin region are expected to be added to the wintry mix by Wednesday night, according to the National Weather Service. The good news, the area will be warming up in the coming days with no freezing temperatures in the immediate horizon.

A small chance (20 percent) of showers is expected to grow by nightfall, with a 50 percent chance of precipitation forecast for the region. It will be cloudy with a low of around 39 degrees with negligible wind, according to weather officials.

The substantive chance of showers continues into Thursday but downgraded to 40 percent, according to the forecast. Skies on Thursday will be cloudy, and the high temperature will be near 51 degrees. Nighttime will call for clear skies, a low of around 36 degrees and north/northwest winds blowing at around 5 miles per hour.

But the sun will come up in earnest on Friday, bet your bottom dollar. Forecaster are calling for sunny skies and a high near 61 degrees. Wind will be nearly imperceptible at around 5 miles per hour. The low Friday night will be 37 degrees — well above the freezing mark.

That warming trend continues into Saturday, when sunny skies will usher in a high near 63 degrees. Calm wind from the south will be gusting at a puny 5 miles per hour, forecasters added. Saturday night will be partly cloudy, with a low of around 42 degrees — a far cry from the 28 degrees thereabouts the area experienced Tuesday night.

By Sunday, the chance of showers will have diminished dramatically to a mere 20 percent under mostly cloudy skies and a high temp of 63 degrees. Those partly cloudy conditions will linger into nightfall, with a low of 44 degrees.

Here's some more good news, in addition to the lack of freezing temps: The high temperature on Monday is expected to come close to 70 degrees! We don't often use exclamation points in reporting the news, but felt this bit of information warranted the punctuation mark.

Beyond that peer into the future, even meteorologists — with all the dazzling array of prognosticating tools at their disposal — aren't able to peek into coming days with much clarity. Let's just hope the future, at least for now, won't be bone chilling cold! Again, the punctuation mark is warranted we think.
