More Scorching Heat In Central Texas This Week
Sorry to dampen your hopes for cooler, autumnal weather, but Monday calls for a heat index value making it feel like 102 degrees.
AUSTIN, TX — We're going to need to wait a bit more for fall-like weather to arrive. There have been recent nights where Mother Nature has teased us with delightful, cool weather come evening time, but the high on Monday is expected to feel like 102 degrees, according to the National Weather Service.
But wait: There are chances for showers and thunderstorms this week! Those chances grow exponentially by Wednesday. So there's that.
- Monday calls for a 20 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms after 1 p.m. Conditions are expected to be partly sunny, with a high near 96, with heat index values as high as 102. South southeast wind 5 to 10 miles per hour (again, paltry, so no real relief on that front, pun intended).
- By Monday night, the same 20 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms persists before 1 a.m. Conditions will be partly cloudy, with a low around 75. South southeast wind will be between 5 to 10 mph.
- On Tuesday, the chance for showers/thunderstorms grows to 30 percent mainly after 1 p.m. It is expected to be partly sunny, with a high near 95 and south/southeast wind of 5 to 10 mph. By nightfall, rain chances diminish to 20 percent. It's predicted to be mostly cloudy, with a low around 75 degrees and the same wind conditions.
- Wednesday is when the chances for showers and thunderstorms grow exponentially to 50 percent under partly sunny skies and a high near 94 degrees. Those stubborn winds will remain the same: South southeast between 5 to 10 mph. Rain chances shrink to 40 percent by nightfall under mostly cloudy skies and a low temp of 74. Wind remains the same — identical speed, equal force.
- Thursday, chances of rain drops to 30 percent. It's expected to be mostly sunny, with a high near 94. The same exact wind conditions too: South/southeast, between 5 to 10 mph. Thursday night will be partly cloudy with a low of around 73, according to forecasters.
- The Friday forecast calls for sunny conditions with a high near 96 and nightfall will bring mostly clear skies with a low of around 75 degrees.
So plan accordingly, which means — for the truly optimistic — you might want to have an umbrella handy. And everyone — even the Debbie Downers among us — should ensure to stay hydrated. The Austin-Travis County EMS medics have reported having to be dispatched across the city in aiding people felled by heat exhaustion or heat stroke. So stay hydrated and know that cooler, autumnal weather will soon be at hand.
