Austin Police Will Look For Drunk Drivers During Halloween
Oct. 31 initiative will be conducted from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. as an effort to enforce DWI laws and keep the public safe, police said.
AUSTIN, TX — The Austin Police Department will be conducting a 'No Refusal' Initiative on Halloween night to crack down on drunk driving.
The Oct. 31 initiative will be conducted from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. as an effort to enforce DWI laws and keep the public safe by encouraging drivers to make responsible decisions. To that aim, police will be able to draw blood from motorists unwilling to submit to voluntary sobriety testing by securing bench warrants from municipal judges.
"The Austin Police Department and the City of Austin Transportation Department are continuously focused on preventing lives from being lost on the streets, highways and waterways of Austin," police wrote in a press advisory. "We are dedicated to making roadways and waterways of Austin safe for residents and visitors through education and enforcement. There is no excuse to drink and drive! Plan a safe ride home. "
