Man Dies In East Austin After Being Hit By Vehicle — Second Pedestrian Killed On Same Day

Six pedestrians have died on city streets the past two weeks alone, most of them hit while trying to dart across Interstate 35.

EAST AUSTIN, TX — Emergency officials reported a pedestrian was killed after getting hit by a car in East Austin Tuesday evening — the second pedestrian to die after getting struck by a car and the sixth in the past two weeks alone.

Austin-Travis County EMS officials said the man in his 60s was hit on Manor Road at Anchor Lane just before 6 p.m. The man was transported to University Medical Center Brackenridge but died a short time later, EMS officials said.

The man was the second pedestrian to die on the same day after being hit by a vehicle. Just a few hours before the incident at Manor Road/Anchor Lane, another pedestrian was hit and killed while trying to cross Interstate 35 at Oltorf Street. In that incident, a man in his 40s died while running across the interstate despite the presence of a bridge and sidewalk which would have ensured his safe passage.
